Fixing flow, stopping the wait
10 days in hospital for someone over 80 can age them by 10 years
NHS systems don't usually struggle for lack of effort. They fail because their operating design makes good flow impossible.
Poor flow makes patients wait, can create harm and reduces productivity. Fixing flow is not a matter of huge structural reform. But improving it is often counter intuitive and complex.
The STOP STOP GO (SSG) method is a structured way to find where and why flow breaks, and how to get things moving again.
What sets SSG apart is its ability to dynamically deploy multiple bodies of knowledge against presenting flow problems. All flow problems end up as waits so we focus on understanding the different types of waits that exist and the discrete solutions required to solve them.
Everyone understands waiting and no one likes it. Staff see it in their daily lives and understand the harm it causes. They just may not know what to do about it. That’s where we can help. Instead of introducing complex QI programmes, we have developed an approach that requires no training and that staff can use everyday - to help them to understand and fix different types of waits.
Whilst designed to support NHS flow issues, SSG has the unintended ability to help non NHS organisations that operate in complex sectors deal with flow, as flow is a property independent of sector.
SSG only focuses on flow.
